Metastation Records

 

Meta has had two (three if you count the name change) incarnations. The original label started by Bill Laswell and Janet Rienstra was intended to release spoken word releases. After the first release the label became somewhat inactive, re-emerging to release a few albums in conjunction with other labels. Janet Rienstra re-activated the label in a new form, focusing on meditative and yoga-related releases. Bill Laswell does not appear to be hands on with the label, but is closely associated with it. Audio Letter's remix album also falls out of the second incarnation's numbering scheme, having been released in a joint venture with Jivamukti Yoga Center. The original incarnation also had a sister label called SubMeta. A few years into it's resurgence the label was renamed Metastation.
